About Ruth Naughton-Doe

Ruth Naughton-Doe is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Mental Health Social Care Research Centre at the University of York. Ruth is a Social Work Researcher, and her focus is on addressing the social determinants of mental illness, including loneliness. Ruth completed her NIHR Three Schools Mental Health Programme Fellowship exploring solutions to perinatal loneliness in June 2024. Her next project starting in October 2024 will evaluate non-clinical, community-based mental health support for perinatal young women and is funded by the NIHR Research Programme for Social Care.

Ruth’s recent research focusses on engaging and partnering with seldom-heard and/or under-served populations, including young parents, LGBTQ+ parents and Muslim parent. Ruth’s approach is to collaborate with people with lived experience, practitioners, health and care services, communities, and the voluntary sector. She also draws on her own lived experience of mental illness, and her practitioner experience working in mental health services.

Ruth enjoys using creative research methods including using zines in research, and creating images, mind-maps or films to disseminate findings.
